Every member of our team brings exceptional qualifications and a personal commitment to fighting for the best possible outcome for each client — in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

Ian Mallon

Ian Mallon

Principal

Ian founded this firm on one conviction: every client deserves specialist, committed representation — not a number on a case management system. A Law graduate of Queen's University Belfast, he was admitted as a solicitor in Northern Ireland in 2002 and the Republic of Ireland in 2003, giving the firm seamless coverage across both jurisdictions from the outset.

He handles the most complex High Court litigation — road traffic accidents, workplace injuries, clinical and dental negligence, oil pollution, defamation, and insurance disputes. He completed advanced advocacy training with the National Institute for Trial Advocacy in the United States, and brings that rigour to every case he argues.

Beyond the law, Ian has served as a board member and chairperson of PIPS Hope and Support and as a school governor — reflecting a deep commitment to the communities this firm serves.

John-Paul Woods

John-Paul Woods

Solicitor

John-Paul is tri-qualified — admitted in Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, and England & Wales — which gives clients access to an unusually broad range of legal expertise under one roof. He holds a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Wales, a Master of Business Administration from Cardiff University, and completed his Legal Practice Course at the College of Law in Chester.

That commercial grounding shapes his approach: clear objectives, efficient strategy, measurable outcomes. John-Paul specialises in personal injury law, professional negligence claims, and arbitration and dispute resolution.

Stephen Doran

Stephen Doran

Solicitor

Stephen is a Law graduate of Queen's University Belfast and holds further qualifications in professional skills and advocacy from John Moores University in Liverpool. Like John-Paul, he is admitted in three jurisdictions — Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, and England & Wales — an asset on complex cross-border matters.

Before joining the firm, Stephen led teams at one of the UK's major personal injury practices, building an expertise in road traffic and employer's liability cases. He now applies that depth of experience to a broad range of specialisms, including medical malpractice, professional negligence, environmental law, and insurance disputes.

Nicole Morgan

Nicole Morgan

Trainee Solicitor

Nicole graduated with a degree in Law and Criminology from Ulster University in Belfast and joined the firm as a trainee solicitor. She assists across all areas of the practice — from discovery applications and interlocutory matters to pleadings and full trial preparation — gaining the kind of rounded, hands-on experience that builds exceptional practitioners.

Outside the office, Nicole plays Gaelic football for Pearse Ógs in Armagh, which perhaps explains her tenacious approach to a case.

Joanna Ulanowska

Joanna Ulanowska

Medico-Legal Co-ordinator

Joanna holds a Law degree from the University of Lublin, Poland, where she studied in the Faculty of Labour and Social Insurance Law — a background that gives her a sharp instinct for the employment and insurance dimensions that run through so much of the firm's work. As Medico-Legal Co-ordinator, she is the operational core of every contentious case: obtaining and managing medical records, instructing treating physicians and independent consultants, co-ordinating client appointments, and driving case preparation through to trial in both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

Fluent in Polish and several other languages, Joanna is an essential bridge between the firm and its Polish and Eastern European clients — providing translation, clear explanation, and the kind of personal support that makes a difficult legal process manageable. Outside the office she serves as Chairperson of the Board of Management of the Polish Supplementary School in Newry.

Helen Mallon

Helen Mallon

Administration & HR

Helen joined Ian Mallon Solicitors from a senior HR consultancy role at an international pharmaceutical company, bringing with her the structured, process-driven approach that a busy litigation practice demands. She manages the firm's operations, human resources, and client services — the infrastructure that allows the legal team to concentrate entirely on their clients' cases.

Helen is also directly involved in the day-to-day running of litigation files, which means she understands the process clients are going through and can answer questions clearly and promptly. She is frequently the first member of the team a new client speaks with, and the tone she sets — attentive, efficient, unhurried — reflects exactly the kind of practice this firm is built to be.
